1 MONTH SINCE THE FIRST POST! (Time is passing way too fast y'all I'm scared)

Forgot how to make this blog UI dark mode friendly (my bad y'all LMFAO). But today we're doing a super important record to me. Unfortunately, it's not on any streaming platforms. Every week I'll be doing a lot of black artists/musicians.

I vividly remember one summer night, I was skimming through old 90s R&B records. At the time, I was super inspired by Sonder's and Tory Lanez' sample selection on Chixtape 4 (more specifically I wanted my beats to sound like "Proud Family", "Slow Down", and "Differences"). So I'd go through Omar Kaan's channel to find some HEAT. But then I see this interesting album pop up.

I was 'fresh' off a devastating situationship (I saw the girl EXACTLY where I first met her on a random Thursday after claiming I was healed). I was worried about becoming an adult, worried about things an 18-year old SHOULDN'T be worried about honestly, I'd 'given up' on the music (meaning I wasn't sending NO beats out) but I was still making beats so I wouldn't lose my mind before I needed it.

I remember listening to it the first time, being amazed by the production quality. AND BRO'S SINGING. But for whatever reason, he disappeared from the music scene. He'd only release one or two songs the few years after, but nothing after that.

I lowkey desire to have that level of mystery around me, but unfortunately my erratic behavior will never allow that to happen.

This is Black History because it captures the essence of the 90s R&B we all love to hear, with features from Diddy(unfortunately), Faith Evans, 112, and Mary J. Blige.

A few months back, Chukwudum and I were discussing ideas for the album. And he came up with a cool idea: Naming each song after the imaginary things we wanted as kids. He came up with A LOT of things, and I really couldn't come up with anything from my childhood that I wanted. I thought about it for a few days, and I wondered why I couldn't come up with anything. It wasn't until later I realized it's because I hated watching most  of the cartoons that had imaginary things, PLUS most of the stuff I wanted as a kid I ended up getting. The one thing I REALLY loved as kid though was ties . My Mom always told me stories about how I'd run to the ties/suit section at most stores. Care 4 Urself.

-Chukwudum. I have very little self belief in myself. Which often comes as a fundamental contradiction to most people that have met me. So what does this mean for someone who's enthralled with art? It means that I, in turn, refuse to believe in what I create. Art is a reflection of what we think about our own perception of everything. So in making music, something so deeply personal, I find myself constantly second guessing. Now, if one found themselves working with one of the best young producers in the world and also being completely new at making music, the bridge between being 'okay' and being absolutely terrible feels insurmountable. I was on the phone with TOBi, a Canadian artist from Brampton who's helped me a lot in terms of laying the basis for my musical journey. I asked him what it was like, selling his own mixtapes out the back of his car. Now he got a couple albums and awards. So why not ask an extremely emotionally intelligent winner how to get my own feet...
